I’ve been creating sculptural and functional hand-built ceramics for many years. Having taught the subject at GCSE and A Level, I now help adults to enjoy making pottery at Bristol Folk House.
Clay being what it is, its very substance is inspiring. Bold textures dramatically contrast with the mineral miracle of the oxide-stained, colourful glazes of my stoneware-fired ceramics. Eschewing the circular, mechanical confines of the potter’s wheel, my ‘slow pottery’ reflects nature. Spot the leaves, fruit and twigs, whether actually pressed into the inviting clay or as echoed in the design of my forms. From hand-sized ‘pinchpots’ and charming modelled animals to large coiled and slabbed statement vases, planters and sculpture, my work is suitable for home or garden display.
