I studied at the Slade and Hornsey Colleges of Art and then taught art in several Comprehensive schools until retiring in 2003 when I began to learn how to etch.
I have spent the last twenty years continuing to learn and developing my skills and interest in this art form, meanwhile carrying on with the drawing and painting which has always been hugely important to me.
Trips to visit my son in Japan have provided me with a fantastic source of material as I became fascinated by all the young women dressed in mainly hired kimonos, who visit the wonderful sites such as temples, shrines and gardens or pose under the cherry-blossom for wedding photos.  I took very many photographs as discreetly as possible and these have provided me with the subject-matter for recent etchings.
I have used the polymer photogravure technique to develop a series called 'Leavings' over a long period since 2012. The title of the six sets of prints refers to things that are left behind or partings and farewells, and in some cases both.
Paintings include  views of Siena, Prague and Antwerp, and a feminist take on Manet's Le Dejeuner sur L'herbe in which the male/female characters are reversed and all are based on classical statuary.
I have exhibited widely, showing my work on the NBA Trail over many years. I have also shown regularly in open exhibitions at the RWA, Bath Society of Artists and Clifton Arts, also in group shows at the University of Bristol Theatre Collection and the Bristol Guild.
My folio set of etchings, Un Brigadista is in the International Brigade Archive and I have work in the University of Bristol Theatre Collection Archive and in many private collections.
In the 2024 Trail  I will be showing my work in Venue 36, 142 Bishop Road.
