I am immensely attracted by colour and form. This interest brings my attention to items others might pass by such as seaweed and discarded or broken objects. I work with objects, observing their histories and giving them new purpose. I arrange and order items as collections to adorn walls.
I have been exploring painting messages of hope and inspiration to encourage people to value what we have, take responsibility for our world and cherish all species. I have used vibrant watercolours to create protest papers; beautifully painted images surrounded by words of hope and inspiration.
I am interested in considerations of value. Particularly value of materials. What is value? How it is given or created, and how it changes over time. This demands that I look at changes of use, rephrasing, reusing, repurposing, rethinking and revaluing discarded or passed by objects.
I associate feelings with many of the materials that I work with, and also with the colours I use. This supports me to reframe inner conversations around my creativity, for example painting without yellow during difficult times, arranging joyful sweet wrappers to question the true value of chocolate, making a curtain of identity cards, and to create sewn pictures of love and connectivity.
